The exhibition’s closing night is February 9, 2019, 6-7 pm, at the UNCG Greensboro project Space.

Psychedelic Counter-Culture Art Exhibition

This unique collection will showcase the energy of the era with local artists. As a continuation of the movement, this call hopes to be  reflective of deadheads, comic artists such as R. Crumb, Grateful Dead musician Jerry Garcia, San Francisco poster art, and the 60’s youth driven culture in 2019. UNCG’s Psychedelic, Counter-Culture Art Exhibition will try to represent NC’s pop, underground, comic, colorful, and artistic expression.

Open to all North Carolina artists. All works are original.

Art Sales: Artist information will be posted at exhibition. Potential buyers for this art can contact artists privately for sales information or commissions.

Liquid Dye

Arthur is primarily a liquid dyer.

The dye in solution is applied directly to the folded fabric to create the final design.

About

I have also experimented with ice dyeing and will try batik sometime in the future.

I am self taught and the feather/ floral look to my designs is the result of trial and error. I began dyeing fabric in the early ‘80s, taking a 25 yr break from 1992- 2017.

Liquid Inspirations

Arthur Haskell is a self taught liquid dyer.

He began tie dyeing in the early eighties because he wanted to wear shirts like the ones he saw at Grateful Dead shows.

Arthur sells his works at festivals, art fairs, and Grateful Dead shows throughout the eighties and early nineties. Drawn back to his passion for dyeing textiles after a 25 year break to install decorative hardscape, Arthur began dyeing again in 2017. Three of his pieces were hung in the Foothill Arts Council’s Clifford Morrison Memorial Competition this October and “Ripple” placed third in the 3D category.

Arthur spends his winters working as an instructor and guide for the Alf Engen Ski School at the Alta Ski Area.

Reflections

Historical artifacts inspire the artist to create patterns in his work that mimmic ancient artists.
